HolmeOld Holme SchoolHolme is a small rural village high above the Holme Valley 7 miles south-south-west of Huddersfield town centre (8.2 miles by road) and about 2.5 miles south-west of Holmfirth.
The Fleece, Woodhead Road, HolmeThe village principally consists of residential and farm buildings.
The village pub, The Fleece Inn, is the main focal point of Holme and the village also has a small school.
The village is mostly within the Peak District National Park. The traditional millstone boundary stone closer to Holme Moss is well inside the actual national park boundary.
Holme has holiday cottages. For many years these included Holme Guide Cottage, run by Girlguiding's Huddersfield and District Guide Association, however in 2020 a decision was made to close and sell the cottage.
Holme Castle and Holme Sunday School, Woodhead Road, HolmeJust beyond Holme on the A6024 Woodhead Road from Holmfirth is Lane, a tiny hamlet which has been provided with "Lane village" signs. It consists of a few houses, farm buildings and holiday cottages. This tiny outpost of Holme is less than half a mile and only about 7 minutes walk from the centre of Holme.
The A6024 road ascends from Lane on an initially winding route up to Holme Moss, where the road passes over the Pennine moorland at a height of 524m (1,719ft). The route has become an iconic hill climb in many big cycle races, including a King of the Mountain stage of The Tour de France in 2014 and Côte de Holme Moss Sportive cycling events.
Near the top of Holme Moss is a radio transmitter station which was originally built to also transmit TV signals across the north of England.
There is a public car park alongside the A6024 at Holme Moss, which offers a viewpoint providing extensive views across the Holme Valley, Huddersfield area and beyond. At Holme Moss the road passes from the Kirklees district of West Yorkshire into Derbyshire. Before local government changes in 1984 it was the boundary of the West Riding of Yorkshire and Cheshire.
On each side of Holme, there are two attractive reservoir-filled valleys which converge at Holmbridge, where the River Holme begins.
Despite its diminutive size, Holme has its own band, The Holme Silver Band. The band traces its history back to the 1870s and its musicians appeared in six episodes of TV's longest-run comedy series "Last Of The Summer Wine", which was based in the Holme Valley throughout its 37 years. The band has a rehearsal room on the road to Holme in the neighbouring village of Holmbridge.

A village shop is operated as The Fleece Pantry at The Fleece Inn pub, stocking and taking orders for bread, pies, cakes and farm shop produce.
The Fleece Inn is the village pub which serves cask ales and food.
The Fleece Pantry at the pub offers takeaway sandwiches, snacks and drinks together with family-sized pies and sweets to pre-order and take away.
The village school, Holme Junior & Infant School, is in Meal Hill Road.

Holme has community-run public toilets with a donation fee at Woodhead Road opposite The Fleece public house.

Road travel
The A6024 links Holme to Holmfirth and towards Huddersfield. In the opposite direction the A6024 climbs to a height of a height of 524m (1,719ft) on the route over Holme Moss into Derbyshire. The road is sometimes closed by heavy snow in winter.
